Domestic violence is a worldwide problem, but in African countries, it seems to be an epidemic. Most cases shine a light on women who are victims of their domineering husbands or boyfriends, but it's not just men who are the perpetrators of violence in relationships. Women, too, can be the instigators, and sometimes men are the victims.
In one case, recently, a man from Samuchima, Botswana suffered a horrific ordeal when his lover bit his testicles, nearly ripping them off his body. The victim, a 33-year-old man, had to be rushed into surgery to have them reattached. He's currently recovering from the ordeal.
His girlfriend, a 32-year-old woman, had been at a church far from home, and she came back a full day late. This angered the man, and the couple got into a shouting match. After fighting, the woman sought to get her revenge. She cozied up to her lover, then committed the vicious act.
The man was rushed to the Gumare Primary Hospital, where medics tipped off the police that the vicious violence was done by the man's girlfriend. He was rushed into surgery when authorities tracked the girlfriend down.
"Currently she is facing a grievous harm charge and the doctor's report will determine the final charge," said Shakawe Police Commander Superintendent Goitsemodimo Molapisi. "It can be lesser or remain as it is."
According to an officer who investigated the incident, "They exchanged harsh words with the man demanding to know where she had been. She tore and left the testicles hanging."
"He is very lucky because she nearly cut them off from the body," the officer concluded.
The victim is reportedly recovering, still at the hospital where he’s getting treatment. No word yet on whether the suspect will be charged with additional crimes. Hopefully, the man is smart enough to end the relationship with this violent woman.
