Parents Remove Daughter From School Over Transgender Bathroom Sharing Policy

Parents in Boise, Idaho were not pleased when they found out a transgendered student uses the same bathroom as their daughter. They weren't going to wait for the school to hem and haw about it, either, and pulled her out.

Pauline Adams and Jacob Smith were disturbed when they found out that a biologically male student is allowed to use the girls' bathroom at South Junior High. D.W. Trantham was born male, but identifies as female.

According to the Boise School District, "The Office of Civil Rights has informed all schools that they must provide access to the facility of the transgendered students' choice.”

Smith and Adams accept that Trantham identifies as a female, but Adams voices concern. "When does it go to the locker rooms?" she asked. "Are you going to be OK with this? Are we going to allow our school district to make these decisions without asking (or) informing us? It's not OK.”

Trantham took the reaction hard. "It was really devastating to think that parents were so scared of me and that their lack of understanding led them to take their child out of school," she said.

Smith and Adams are holding out for the school to address their concerns. Perhaps their daughter can just claim that she identifies with teachers and use the private staff bathrooms instead.
