Man Who Helped Woman Who Crashed Truck Had Other Motivations

In the some-people-are-so-selfish-it-is-totally-mind-boggling category, we have a report out of Texas about a man who stopped to “help” at the scene of an accident, and stole a wallet out of the wrecked car with the dazed owner not noticing until too late.

Joshua Smith posted on Facebook about how his sister, Kimberly Smith, had a rollover accident early on a Sunday morning earlier this year near in Irving, Texas.

According to the FB post, a “tall, skinny black male” in his 50s came up to his sister, who was stuck in the wrecked car, and pretended like he was trying to help her.

Based on a report from an Irving Police Department Public Information Officer, while it is not known what caused Kimberly Smith's accident, when she finally got out of her wrecked SUV, she was "dazed and confused," and the middle-aged man went and got her purse for her. He apparently took out the wallet out before he gave her the purse.

The Facebook post closely mirrored what the police reported.

“(He) even found her purse and brought it over to her,” Smith noted in the post. “She was still dazed and confused from the accident and he said he was gonna go get his cell to call 911.”

Smith says he believes the thief decided to take the wallet because his sister was upset and not paying attention to what was going on.

“She begged him to just stay with her,” he pointed out. “He said don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. He gets in the truck and takes off. With her wallet. All her credit cards. Id’s. Everything. And all this happened after she was trapped upside down and NOBODY stopped to help her.”

Smith also noted in his post that he hopes that the broad reach of social media will make it possible to identify the man who stole his sister’s wallet.
