Caught In Horrible Misunderstanding, 5 Police Officers Kill Each Other

A police operation in the Knyazhychi village of Ukraine was underway to bust up a suspected theft ring, but attempts to capture the suspects resulted in a shootout. As Kyiv Post reports, that shootout resulted in a horrific tragedy.

The shootout resulted in the deaths of five police officers, all of whom succumbed to friendly fire. The officers ended up firing on one another by mistake, and the heartbreaking tragedy has stunned the nation.

“My sincere condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those killed police officers. Heartbreaking tragedy,” said Former Chief of National Police Khatia Dekanoidze.

The police had learned of a plan to rob a house in the village, and they set up a trap so that they could finally bust up the ring. That plan went awry when a security alarm went off in a neighboring building, and other units of the police department ended up exchanging fire with the officers that were already in place. As for the suspects, they were rounded up a short time later.

“The three intruders were detained by police, their firearms were seized. They will be brought to justice,” a statement on the Interior’s Ministry website states.
