After Teammate Is Injured, One Teen's Actions Are Going Viral

Football can be a dangerous sport at any level, especially during vicious high school games. Despite rigorous training and well trained officials, injuries regularly occur during the high impact sport.

Sadly, one high school player, Grayson Bonomo, was badly injured in a recent game while playing for Northeast Guilford High School against players from Ragsdale High School. As Bonomo was being taken off the field in a stretcher, several people noticed that another Guildford High School player, Dillon Goedeck, had taken to his knees to pray for his injured teammate. The incredible incident was captured in several viral photos, prompting a national outpouring of support.

According to Fox8, Bonomo was knocked unconscious after clashing helmets with a Ragsdale team member while attempting to get the first down. Bonomo’s best friend, Dillon, describes the incident, saying: “Players were blocking our view at the time and you just see Grayson taking off.”

As paramedics quickly rushed onto the scene, readying the injured player for transportation to the emergency room, Bonomo felt that he needed to pray for his best friend, recalling how he took “a step to collect myself and I go and take a knee and I pray -- praying for his safety and for his health and that he'll recover quickly.”

A parent, who took a photo of the incredible moment, anonymously sent it to Bonomo’s mother, Michele, who quickly uploaded it to Facebook, writing: “This is something every parent should be proud of. I don’t know who took the photo but I want to say thank you.”

After uploading the heartwarming image, the response from the local and national community has been phenomenal, garnering 3000 likes in a single day. Online commentators have focused on Goedeck’s devotion to God with one Facebook user saying “I am so proud to see these young men pray in public.”

Dillon Goedeck has been praised by friends, family, strangers and his best friend, with Bonomo saying: “I felt an instant rush of emotion knowing that my best friend was actually praying for me.” After being treated for concussion, Bonomo has been cleared to return to the football field if he rests for 10 days and passes concussion tests.
