A story has been making the rounds on social media that alleges the bakery department employees at a Walmart in McDonough, Georgia refused to make a cake that they viewed as ‘racist.’ According to the Daily Mail, the store manager has denied claims of the refusal, which centered on a retirement party cake for a police officer.
An unidentified woman was attempting to get a cake made for her father, who was retiring after a lengthy law enforcement career. The cake was to be adorned with the phrase ‘Blue Lives Matter’ and a thin blue line per her requests, but she received resistance from store employees.
“Walmart refused to honor her request due to it being "racist". To me, this is appalling. People CHOOSE to make EVERYTHING about race. I'm so tired of it. It's literally exhausting for me to think about now,” wrote Taylor Wilkies, a police officer from Georgia that shared the story on Facebook.
The employees were reportedly ordered to make the cake by the store’s manager, but still refused. That’s led to plenty of backlash from members of the community, but another poster claims it’s much ado about nothing.
“I asked her if I wanted to have the bakery decorate a cake depicting the thin blue line would they do it, and she said that they would be more than glad to, that it's ridiculous for anyone to make this claim, and that she doesn't understand why someone would make it,” he wrote.
