Trump Takes Jabs At Obama Claiming Weak Immigration Policies Invited Trouble To The States

President Obama is to blame for the Mara Salvatrucha gang having entered the United States, President Trump declared this week. He tweeted: “The weak illegal immigration policies of the Obama Admin. allowed bad MS-13 gangs to form in cities across the US. We are removing them fast!”

According to Yahoo News, the criminal operation allegedly was responsible for the recent murders of several teenagers in Long Island, N.Y. The gang reportedly has been implicated in many more deadly incidents in its native El Salvador. MS-13 operatives initially appeared in the United States before Obama became president in January 2009. The FBI noted the group’s presence much earlier in that decade.

“Transnational criminal organizations like MS-13 represent one of the gravest threats to American safety,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in response to the Long Island murders. “These organizations enrich themselves by pedaling poison in our communities, trafficking children for sexual exploitation, and inflicting horrific violence in the communities where they operate.”

Fox News reported that Sessions predicted U.S. authorities will “devastate” the group, which he called “one of the most violent gangs in the history of our country.” The attorney general repeated Trump’s claim when he alleged that the “weak illegal immigration policies” of the Obama White House led to MS-13 members coming to the United States.

“So many of these people are illegally here, and they came without proper authority; and with a good, lawful border, many of them would not be here,” Sessions told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. “They use machetes, they kill children, they put children into prostitution at age 12 ... they’re involved in the kinds of activities that can be identified and they can be prosecuted. I believe if we stay at it, we can devastate this organization and that’s going to be our goal.”

Yahoo News pointed out that immigration reform is one of the current administration’s top priorities. During last year’s presidential race, Trump promised voters that he would build a wall along the U.S-Mexico border and deport all of the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants who are living illegally in the United States. He has since moderated the proposals.
