Trump: Press ‘Dishonesty Is Out Of Control’

President Trump on Thursday used another press conference to bash the news media, declaring that reporters’ “dishonesty is out of control.”

Newsmax noted that the purpose of the White House event was to present Alexander Acosta, the president’s second nominee for labor secretary. The initial pick, Andrew Puzder, withdrew his name from consideration due to a lack of support in the Senate, which must confirm cabinet nominees.

Trump stole the show by continuing to wage war on the media. “I’m making this presentation directly to the American people … because many of our nation's reporters and folks will not tell you the truth,” he said. “The press has become so dishonest that if we don't talk about it we are doing a tremendous disservice to the American people; tremendous disservice. We have to find out what's going on because the press honestly is out of control. The level of dishonesty is out of control.”

Trump singled out CNN, which he had previously accused of reporting “fake news.” He told the TV network’s Jim Acosta that “the reporting is fake, Jim, you know it is.” The president added: “Here's the thing, the public isn't — they read newspapers, they see television, they watch, they don't know if it's true or false because they are not involved. I'm involved. I've been involved with this stuff all my life, so I know when you are telling the truth or when you are not.”

Trump raged on: “I just see many, many untruthful things. I will tell you what else I see. I see tone. You know the word ‘tone.’ The tone is such hatred. I want to see an honest press. When I started out by saying it's important for the public to get an honest press … the public doesn't believe you people anymore. But if you were straight, I would be your biggest booster. I would be your biggest fan.”

Trump denied that the first several weeks of his presidency have been “chaotic,” as The New York Times and others have reported. He claimed he “inherited a mess” from President Obama and that his administration “is running like a fine-tuned machine,” according to The Huffington Post.
