Trump: Better Relations With Russia ‘A Good Thing, Not A Bad Thing’

Donald Trump tweeted Saturday morning that “only stupid people or fools would think it is bad” for the U.S. government to foster “a good relationship with Russia.”

According to Newsmax, the president-elect said it will be “a good thing, not a bad thing” to end the two countries’ longtime animosity toward each other. “We have enough problems around the world without yet another one,” he wrote. “When I am president, Russia will respect us far more than they do now and both countries will, perhaps, work together to solve some of the many great and pressing problems and issues of the WORLD!”

Trump also accused the Democratic National Committee of “gross negligence” for allowing Russian operatives to hack party officials’ emails during last year’s White House race. He continued to deny that the cyber attacks helped him defeat Hillary Clinton. “Intelligence stated very strongly there was absolutely no evidence that hacking affected the election results. Voting machines not touched!” the president-elect wrote.

Later, he tweeted: “Only reason the hacking of the poorly defended DNC is discussed is that the loss by the Dems was so big that they are totally embarrassed!”

Trump issued his series of Twitter posts after meeting Friday with intelligence officials, who briefed him about their conclusion that Putin ordered hackers to attack computers at the Democratic National Committee and Clinton’s campaign headquarters. According to investigators, Putin sought to aid Trump by giving WikiLeaks potentially harmful Democratic emails.
