San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has made headlines for his refusal to stand for the playing of the National Anthem before games, and he points to issues of racism as the reason for his decision. While Kaepernick is certainly within his right to express his opinion, his stance has rankled a number of people.
As AWM shares, that includes some current and former NFL players, who seem to share an overriding sentiment that Kaepernick is making a spectacle of himself instead of actually doing something productive that may help deal with an issue he feels so strongly about. Additionally, the fact that he’s in the midst of earning $114 million dollars to play a game that he loves has not gone unnoticed, and that’s led some to question exactly why he’s feeling so ‘oppressed.’
“This guy is a joke. Get lost. You don’t like it in a country that has given you opportunity to succeed? Then get out,” shared one player.
“Activists changed USA for better but have to associate Nat Anthem w/ military that die for ur right to protest. Stand up. Find another way,” shared another.
