Charles Krauthammer Says Clinton's Excuses For Losing Election Make Her Look "Pathetic"

Charles Krauthammer on Wednesday ridiculed Hillary Clinton for blaming the Russians, the FBI and others for her loss in last year’s election.

RealClearPolitics reported that during his speech at a technology conference, the conservative commentator called Clinton “pathetic.” He compared her analysis of the presidential race to her claim in the 1990s that a “vast right-wing conspiracy” was aligned against her husband, President Bill Clinton.

“I don’t think she’s capable of discussing anything about the election in a way that makes anything other than sympathy for her,” Krauthammer said. “She has made herself pathetic. It was said of the Bourbons they never learned anything, they never forgot anything. She was saying the same stuff about the vast right-wing conspiracy which is essentially what she’s talking about here. Naming all the elements, including as a kind of novelty, the Russians this time. This is the vast right-wing conspiracy she spoke about at the beginning of the Lewinsky scandal, when in fact she and her husband lied for months about an event that really happened and they denied it.”

The commentator, a columnist for The Washington Post, continued: “She has never changed, and she seems incapable of understanding that she lost a humiliating election that was almost unlosable and now it’s because she never knew why she was running. The pathos of her actually sending emails to her staff, in the middle of a campaign, after essentially being on the road for eight years, and begging them to come up with a theme. If you don’t know why you are running for president, you shouldn’t be running for president.”

Breitbart News reported that Krauthammer doubled down on his criticism of Clinton during an appearance on Fox News. “Look, I know I’m in a minority with conservatives, but I actually feel sorry for her,” he told network host Tucker Carlson. “I have a soft spot. It could be because I was in my youth a liberal. I retain the marshmallow deep inside of my heart that I try not to betray these days, but it’s a pathetic performance. It’s sort of childish. She can’t accept responsibility. She has practiced at this where she says.”

He added: “I love in one of her riffs she says, ‘Was I a perfect candidate? No. Did I make mistakes? Yes.’ These are rhetorical devices. Whoever said she was a perfect candidate? She was a terrible candidate. She was the worst imaginable. I mean, just look at the fact she couldn’t shake the challenge of a 74-year-old socialist, who, this is the best part about Bernie Sanders, honeymooned in the Soviet Union. She couldn’t shake his challenge for six months. … That was her challenge, and she had the DNC behind her.”

Krauthammer claimed that Clinton “complained about the (Democratic National Committee) being against her.” He explained: “It’s not delusional. Losing an election, losing something you’ve been after for eight years, probably 16 years, is pretty hard. And I think her handlers or somebody who cares for her should have said, ‘Don’t go out there. You wait a few more years, people will mellow to you. … Maybe they will have some affection for you.’”
