Always Concerned Over The Numbers, Trump Busts New York Times Over Patriots' Visit

When you have a mainstream media that has a clear axe to grind with the President of the United States, and you combine that with a commander-in-chief that doesn’t hesitate to respond when the situation calls for it, you have a recipe for some pretty explosive situations. As Politico shares, President Donald Trump was at it again yesterday, and the target of his wrath this time was the New York Times.

The Super Bowl champion New England Patriots visited the White House yesterday. Instead of treating it as a standard non-story about a meet and greet with the president, the NYT decided to kick things up a notch. The paper took great glee in posting side-by-side photos of the Patriots visit yesterday with a previous visit the team made during the Obama administration. The implication was that fewer Patriots players made the trek this time around because Trump is the big bad wolf or something.

It was a cheap shot that was reminiscent of the Inauguration Day photo non-story that the mainstream media insisted on reporting into the ground, and Trump didn’t hesitate to respond.

“Failing @nytimes, which has been calling me wrong for two years, just got caught in a big lie concerning New England Patriots visit to W.H.,” Trump wrote.

Surprisingly, the Patriots themselves felt the need to respond, and they called the NYT out as well.

“These photos lack context. Facts: In 2015, over 40 football staff were on the stairs. In 2017, they were seated on the South Lawn,” a statement on the team’s social media account read in part.

The Times would later clarify that the team delegation’s for the two visits were roughly the same size - but the player count was much lower this time around. Ok then. So that’s a non-apology way of apologizing for taking a non-important story and attempting to make it into a controversy of some sort. Perhaps Trump is onto something with the whole not being able to get a fair shake thing, as there was simply no need for this to turn into anything at all.
