In this day and age everything ends up online. If you go to a grocery store, you are on camera. If you go to a friend's birthday, you can assume there will be photos of you on Facebook. While this is good in some ways and allows the exchange of useful information--it also has many drawbacks.
Instead of the days when bullies would punch kids on the playground, bullies take it online. They can stay anonymous while spouting out whatever they want to say to other people. This has resulted in people getting severely emotionally scarred and in some heartbreaking cases resulted in suicide.
One video went viral when a girl beat her bully in retaliation. The whole thing started when the bully posted nasty things on Facebook about the victim. The victim went to talk to him at their school about the Facebook posts. He did not appreciate that and threw water on her. Instead of accepting that rude behavior, she used her MMA skills and gave him what he deserved.
World renowned Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighter Kit Dale posted the video online with the caption, “I always encourage people to learn martial arts to one, have the confidence to walk away so it doesn’t affect you, but if it does and you don’t have anywhere to back away, sometimes you’re going to need that to protect yourself.”
Some said the girl took the fight too far and should not have gotten psychical. Others say that she should have altered a parent or a teacher. Nevertheless, she was suspended for school whereas the real bully was not. However, he did not walk away unscathed. He had a black eye that would last weeks.
People commented on the video praising the girl but it had turned into a massive debate of appropriate response. Do you think she should be punished for defending herself or was it more than just a little self defense?
