Couple Find Rare Coins Coins In Backyard

If you have lived in the same house for a quite a while, you do not really expect to find any surprises. You know all the cracks and crevices. You know which floorboard creaks when you step on it and which kitchen tile is on the verge of falling out. You even know about everything outside of your home. Most people spend a lot of time in their backyard, so they even know the steps from the back door to their lawn swing.

One Nevada couple was walking around in their backyard with their dog when they saw the tip of an old can. It was rusty and they had not seen it before, so they did not think much of it. They only saw the top so they could not imagine that there could be anything in it. When they opened it they saw coins. Still, they did not know what kind of gold mine they had in their hands.

They found a total of eight cans filled with coins in pristine condition. It turned out that each coin was worth $20. In total the coins could fetch them anywhere from approximately $30,000 to ten million dollars. They have hired lawyers and will be selling the coins at auction. However, it is still unclear if they are able to keep the coins. The lawyers are helping them learn what their rights are.

Although this story is rare, this is not the first time someone has found rare coins worth a lot more than they could have ever dreamed of finding. According to Wales Online, you could even be carrying around very valuable coins in your pocket without knowing it. For example, regarding the Mary Rose and King James Bible 2 pound coins, "Both designs were released by the Royal Mint in 2011 in limited editions of 20,000 each to mark the 500th anniversary of the Mary Rose and the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. Both coins are already becoming collectible due to the small numbers and reach double to triple their face value."
