After Committing Horrifying Crimes While High On Drugs, This Jury Delivers A Worthy Sentence.

Some crimes are so utterly horrific and repulsive that there is simply no hope for the rehabilitation of the perpetrator - nor is there any way that they deserve it. This crime falls into that category, and the perpetrator has learned his fate. As AWM shares, Christopher Cheary has been sentenced to death for raping, torturing and murdering his girlfriend’s three-year-old daughter.

The crime happened in Visalia, California. The girl’s mother, Erika Smith, had left Cleary in charge of her daughter while she went out and scored some drugs. Cleary, a heroin addict himself, used the opportunity to violently abuse the girl. The mother would return home to smoke some illicit drugs with him, and the pair would suddenly hear a loud thump.

That loud thump was the body of her young daughter hitting the floor. The child was covered in vomit and unconscious. They attempted to revive her and finally called emergency services after a bath didn’t do the trick. First responders would arrive to find a severely abused child and two adults that were blitzed out of their minds on heroin.

The child was rushed to the hospital, where she would be removed from life support days later. It was found that she had extensive bruising to her backside and genitalia and that she had been struck in the head multiple times. Cleary proclaimed innocence, but he was proven to be a flat-out liar in addition to being completely deranged and without a conscience. The jury did not take a long time to reach a verdict at all, and Cleary has learned his fate.

“We the jury find the appropriate penalty to be death for the murder of Sophia Acosta, dated 11/30/16, signed foreperson,” the court clerk said.

“It’s not easy for them to make this decision. It shouldn’t be easy for them, but in some cases this is justice,” said Tulare County Assistant District Attorney David Alavezos.
